Let’s look at a tune called ‘Impact’ produced by The Good Fellas (AKA DJ Red). A 1996 gem that’s often overlooked.

Sampling Busta Rhymes lyrics from ‘Scenario’ by A Tribe Called Quest and mimicking the simple bass patterns of most Dope Dragon releases at the time, ‘Impact’ is a Reebok Classic shuffling stepper. It’s certainly another fine example of the minimalist approach in terms of production and certainly wasn’t out of place in any DJ’s set at the time of release although I can really only remember DJ Hype supporting it.

This was around the time when wherever you would see DJ Hype you would also see MC MC, it was like the modern day Andy C and GQ to a certain extent and I would even go as far to say that this would be my prefered combination even to this day if MC MC was still living in the UK.

If you’re not nodding your head after the drop you are officially dead or just into Dubstep.
