Believe it or not E.Q.P. was Earl Falconer, one of the guys from UB40. It came out on Rough Tone Records which, as far as I’m aware, was a label that Earl set up to release underground music that they were making as well of that from other unknown producers in his native Birmingham area. The label would go on to bigger things releasing the remixes (including the DJ Ron mix) of E.Q.P.’s own “Crackman“. Ron stuck around and made a few more classics for them including the total smasher Mo Musik, often just referred to as African Chant.

Plenty of the other releases on the label are well worth a look in too, there are some hidden gems in there especially in the jungle years, you can listen to a lot of them over at RollDaBeats.

Earl now has a hand in running the aptly named ‘dubstep’ label Circus along with brostep king Flux Pavillion and fellow old skool producer and DJ, Ellis Dee.
